Abstract (PubMed)
Using national federated databases in Qatar (353,326 persons with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, Feb 2020–Apr 2021), we compared the severity of reinfections (first positive PCR ≥90 days after primary infection, n=1,300) versus primary infections (matched 1:5). Reinfections showed 90% lower odds of resulting in severe, critical, or fatal disease: OR 0.10 (95% CI 0.03–0.25). Severe disease: 4/1,300 reinfections vs 158/6,095 primary; critical: 0 vs 28; fatal: 0 vs 7.
