Abstract (PubMed)
The researchers examined whether SARS-CoV-2 spike protein shares molecular sequences with reproductive proteins. Analysis of 82 oogenesis-related proteins found that SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein shares 41 minimal immune determinants with 27 human proteins involved in reproduction. Most shared sequences matched experimentally validated immune epitopes, raising the hypothesis that infection or vaccination could trigger autoimmune responses potentially affecting fertility.
