Abstract (PubMed)
Pneumococcal colonization stimulates the production of memory B cells that improve immune responses to subsequent pneumococcal conjugate vaccination. Mice were colonized with Streptococcus pneumoniae, and their B and CD4+T cells were transferred to naive recipients, which were then vaccinated with the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine. The study demonstrates that B cell-mediated priming following colonization enhances the immune response to vaccination.
